"Watercolor has been Carolyn Lord's main media for 25 years. Her painting approaches have evolved to include a loose brushy style, wet-into-wet, carefully fitted abstract shapes with small shapes and large sculpted forms. With these different watercolor painting approaches, combining them in varying degrees, she can respond to the weather or light surrounding her subject matter. Carolyn's paintings are a record and expression of her world. A plein air artist by training and a graduate of Principia College, IL, she has painted in Brazil, Italy and the Virgin Islands as well as the western United States. Her greatest body of work is of her home town, Livermore California, the landscape, architecture and gardens. "My paintings can be subtle, direct or whimsical, of what I feel it is important to share. Usually it's a record of visual beauty. Sometimes I hint at ideas and concepts that are revealed in the painting or in the title." Her watercolors are recognizable with their varied compositions color and lights and darks.
